Whiskey Sour Classic Regional Dates:WHISKEY SOUR RECIPE

The Whiskey Sour is one of those classic cocktails that has never gone out to style since it was first created in the mid 1800s. It is so iconic that it has its own National Whiskey Sour Day Day on August 25th and we are making ours with Whiskey Sour with Gentleman Jack Tennessee Whiskey.  The perfect balance of sweet and sour, we asked award-winning Bartender & Trade Advocacy Manger at Sweet&Chilli, Devin Kennedy, for any tips on making the perfect Whiskey Sour. Kennedy shared, “the key to making a classic whiskey sour is squeezing fresh lemon juice. The Whiskey Sour has very few components, so you want to showcase the best version of each ingredient. Next would be balancing your sugar and acid. Doing equal parts simple syrup and lemon juice works out great, but if you want to change the sugar component to say a honey or a cane sugar, you will have to alter the ratio a bit to strike a perfect balance.”

Earlier this year, Gentleman Jack invited bartenders around the U.S. to submit their original twist in the   Whiskey Sour Classic for a chance to win $10,000 and a trip to visit the Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Jack Daniel’s National Brand Ambassador, Eric ‘ ET’ Tecosky, explained why the brand is getting behind the cocktail, “The Whiskey Sour is a light, refreshing, approachable cocktail. In a slight departure from Old No. 7, Gentleman Jack is mellowed twice over sugar maple charcoal. In the second mellowing, some oak is removed allowing other flavors to gain a bit more attention. The result is an incredibly accessible whiskey, but one that craves the right mixing match. The Whiskey Sour is the perfect match as the flavors are so complimentary. The challenge to our competitors is to strike the perfect balance and let every flavor in their cocktail have its moment in the spotlight.”
