One of a homeowners’ biggest worries is that they will be without a functional HVAC unit during the hottest part of the year. This fear can become a reality if you neglect your unit. Even with the right amount of maintenance, your HVAC unit can break down.

The main thing you need to work about when confronted with air conditioning repair issues is identifying the root cause of the problem in a hurry. By working with a seasoned HVAC technician, you should have no problem getting your unit back in good working order. The following are common problems that can prevent your HVAC unit from working properly.

Issues With Your Fan

Homeowners in the United States spend millions of dollars annually to fix HVAC repair issues. Identifying the cause of your HVAC repair problems will be much easier if you educate yourself about the different components this system has. The fan housed in your HVAC unit is designed to blow air over your evaporator coil. If the evaporator coil is working properly, it will cool this air.

If the fan attached to your HVAC unit stops working, you will experience issues involving poor airflow and a lack of cool air. Ignoring fan problems can lead to compressor failure. This is why you need to take action as soon as you notice fan problems. With the assistance of an experienced HVAC technician, you can get your damaged fan replaced in no time.

Low Refrigerant Levels

Another important HVAC component you need to become familiar with is refrigerant. The main purpose of refrigerant is to get rid of the moisture and heat present in your indoor air supply. The older your HVAC unit gets, the harder it will be to avoid leaks in your refrigerant lines. Even a small pinhole leak in a refrigerant line can cause big problems. If the refrigerant is allowed to escape from your unit, you will be unable to get the cool air you need to keep the inside of your home comfortable.

The only way to figure out where refrigerant leaks are and how to fix them is by working with the right professionals. An experienced technician can fix your leaks and refill your unit with the right amount of refrigerant.

Leaking Air Ducts

When air is properly cooled, it is then dispersed throughout your home. The only way to get this cool air into the various rooms in your home is with the help of a functional duct system. The ductwork in your attic features a series of large pipes and returns. These metallic foil pipes are attached to the returns with the help of duct tape.

As time goes by, the tape around these ducts will start to loosen. This can result in a series of air leaks forming, which can make the inside of your home very uncomfortable. Pinpointing where these leaks are and fixing them is the only way to restore the flow of cool air in your home.

Problems With Your Thermostat

Controlling the internal temperature of your home is easy if you have a functional thermostat. Traditional dial-type thermostats are extremely popular in older homes around the United States. If these types of thermostats aren’t properly calibrated, the temperature in your home can start to rise.

Instead of sticking with your old thermostat, you need to replace it with a more modern option. Having a smart thermostat installed will allow you to control the internal temperature of your home from your cellphone.

If your unit has stopped working, it is time to call in professionals to take a look.
