Are you stuck at home and feeling a little stir-crazy? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. It can be tough to stay occupied when all your usual routines are put on hold. But don’t despair – there are plenty of fun and productive things to do at home! Whether you’re looking to upskill, take up a new hobby or simply amuse yourself, here are some activities to consider when you’re stuck at home in isolation.

Movie marathon (complete with takeaway food and snacks)

Have you ever seen the Rocky movies? They’re a good place to start, seeing as there are six of them! But seriously, do some research on movie franchises that might hold your attention for the span of several movie lengths, or pick an actor/director and make your way through their portfolio of work. This strategy can be a fantastic way to discover a new filmmaker whose movies you love, or a new genre that you didn’t realise you were into. No movie marathon is complete without food and snacks, so treat yourself by ordering a pizza and following it with some chocolate for dessert!

Games night (via Zoom)

Just because your friends and family aren’t in the room with you, doesn’t mean you can’t organise a fun games night via Zoom. Consider putting an invite list together and arranging an impromptu quiz or game that will help you socialise while stuck at home. The process of putting the quiz together will already kill some time and allow you to get your creative juices flowing!

Flex your culinary muscles

Whether you’re a seasoned (no pun intended) expert in the kitchen or you don’t even know what the different utensils are called, now is the perfect time to cook up a storm. Jump online and find a new recipe you’d like to try, then order the ingredients to be delivered to your house and give it a shot! Worst case scenario, it doesn’t work out and you’ve still got that pizza delivery number from your movie marathon the other night…

Virtual museum or art gallery

Why not explore the online gallery for stay-at-home inspiration? There are countless virtual experiences popping up online since the pandemic started, and it’s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in culture without even walking out your front door.

Exercise at home

Just because you can’t hit the gym, doesn’t mean you can’t get a good workout in at home. There are plenty of workouts you can do without leaving your living room, so find one that works for you and get sweating!

Take up a new hobby

Have you always wanted to learn how to paint? Knit? Crochet? Now’s your chance! With so much time on your hands, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore a new hobby and see if it’s something you’re into. And who knows, you might end up with a beautiful piece of art or a handmade scarf at the end of it all!

So there you have it – some fun things to do at home when you’re feeling isolated and stir-crazy. Get creative, explore new things and most importantly, stay safe!
